Porsche centre lock removal tool, or basically a torque multiplier, even after all these years being a mechanic I still get a buzz from a new tool. This will fit any car or application needed for a little more ommpph

Bought me some surface transforms so this will come in handy. I have to admit I bought this in error thinking it was the Hytorq impact gun 😩

The scaff bar I have does the trick but on a road trip it’s a bit tricky to get in the car

Have a mate who bought something similar but it has a battery drill on the end.. think he paid £3 or £4k for it.. Pretty cool for changing centre lock wheels.
 
I had to look it up to see what it actually was and how it worked.
 
I’m all for unsprung weight reduction - but it does make me laugh how you save a few grams on a wheel nut and then carry around half a tonne of tools around just in case you get a puncture.
Centre locks on a road car is daft at the best of times but Porsche have to take it one step further to over complicate the system, constantly changing tightening procedures and now serious failures.
Someone should invent a wheel that gets held on by 5 small bolts… :-/
 
I'm with you on the car toys Carl.

I'm not a mechanic but bought the TPMS Setup tool....and a VagCOM diagnostics kit, and it give some great pleasure checking out the ECU's data!! lol

Ah the RennTorq tool... I was looking at these, still a chunk of money but at least not £5k... What do you think of the quality? What is the step up ratio? I have a 700nm Beta torque wrench in the post and a set of lifting pads so I can take wheels on and off at the circuit on the GT4 RS, mainly to inspect brake pads. I'm hoping this car won't eat brakes quite as quickly as the GTR, which tends to get through a new set of pads in 8 × 20 minute sessions. 😖

There are other torque multipliers out there, but they'd need some kind of adapter to brace themselves against the wheel. Maybe a little design project that needs looking into... I need to investigate other torque multipliers and see if I can design and CNC machine an attachment like the one above.

I love the look of centrelocks but making wheel removal into a 2 person job (unless you're prepared to pay £3½-5k for a tool) is kind of mad... There must be a more affordable solution.
 
Can you not buy big Ugahh-Duggas that will take centre locks off ?? We use Paoli's on the race cars.
 
You could, but they don't recommend impact torque. Even the race teams I've seen running the GT4 use a conventional torque wrench. I'd think the wheel nuts would look very used pretty quickly with an impact gun. It's quite a specific tightening sequence... Wheels have to be in the air with no load, tightened to 600nm, backed off by 60° exactly, then re-tightened to 600nm. The HiTorq gun does all that automatically, but at a price. Without that you need someone sat in the car jamming the brakes on and holding the steering wheel.
 
I just watched a video where they jacked up each corner of the car (992 TS) and replaced each wheel that way. Before now, every other video I had seen (or website I have visited) had shown the whole car being in the air.

Can anyone confirm whether it is OK to jack up and change in turn - I assume it is, as this would be the way it is done if you had a puncture - or if it really is necessary to have the whole car in the air?

It's a bit of an issue as both of my garages are pretty tight and my driveway is not level, so one wheel jacked is much easier for me ...
