BMW is developing a mid-engined supercar with a V8 engine – and is in talks with McLaren to put the car into production. The top secret flagship is scheduled for a Frankfurt show unveiling in exactly two years’ time, if talks with Britain’s supercar specialists are successfully concluded.

Munich has been toying with a high-octane yin to the i8 hybrid’s yang for a few years. But with 2015 bringing a new chairman, Harald Krüger, and a new boss at M Division, Frank van Meel, the idea of a BMW supercar once again has real momentum at the very top.

Another new boy, r&d chief Klaus Fröhlich, started exploratory talks with McLaren back in January. An alliance makes perfect sense. BMW – still digesting the telephone numbers investment it took to bring the i3 and i8 to market – is understandably keen to seek a top-notch supercar partner with whom to share development, rather than give M Division carte blanche on costs and strategy"

That would be good for both companies, Give BMW a flagship model & McLaren a decent cash injection

A BMW powered McL! :)

Shame they cant work with Lambo again....(due to VW ownership)

BMW seems to have got left behind , once upon a time it was right up there(or seen as above)Merc and Audi (both now have mini supercars ...but not BMW...just their sales rep M division and the I8 we needs about 200 bhp more)

One of my all time favourite supercars......looked into buying one many years ago at £45k ...was too much for me at the time.....

what Mclaren need is BMW to supply them with a Formula 1 engine...BMW were quite handy in their time

Surprising considering the Mclaren partnership with Honda. The road cars Are sold on the back of the f1 brand.

Yeah that's cool but I'm referring to the marketing point of view. Every tshirt, hat and key ring has Mclaren Honda on it.

If Ron had not have fell out H, they would have had a Merc V8 TT from day one......

I heard that the main reason mclaren and merc split up in F1 was because mclaren didn't use merc engine in their road cars. But that came from someone high up at redbull so it could just
Be a rumour.
